All this summer, my honorary granddaughter, Maelynn, is spending Tuesdays with us! We are spending lots of time playing with bubbles and the water table, visiting the splash pad and enjoying outside activities!
Today Nana made a mermaid dress for Maelynn! I had tested the Rozzlyn dress pattern by Max & Meena for the doll size version but had never made the child size version! It was a good choice for this very small half yard piece of mermaids that I had! I was able to easily cut the bodice front and back pieces from it with plenty of spare. Purple is one of Maelynn’s favorite colors so the heathered purple was the perfect match for it!
The pattern was a super simple sew with just a handful of pieces. I had not made a flutter sleeve before but wanted something that would be super cool for our hot summer days! The pattern also includes versions for short and long sleeves. There’s a peplum length and/or a handkerchief hem version as well. There’s even a hoodie option! I plan to make Maelynn some back to school dresses with sleeves and hood and perhaps matching leggings.
Both the Mermaid fabric and heathered purple solid were from Wanderlust Designs Custom Fabric. The purple was a slightly lighter weight, but sewed nicely with the mermaids. And it’s very twirly!
After trying it on and taking a few quick pictures, Maelynn did not want to take it off! I’d say it was a hit!

Lovely! And MaeLynn is getting so big! I remember her as a little bitty thing. Have fun on Tuesdays!
